SEC won’t be in Birmingham’s BBVA Compass Bowl, could be replaced by C-USA
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – For the second time in four years, the SEC won’t place a team in Birmingham’s bowl game. That means Conference USA could replace the SEC on Jan. 7 to play a lower-selected Big East team than usual in the BBVA Compass Bowl. Or not. Such is life this time of year and given Birmingham’s convoluted bowl arrangements. “Maybe you can figure this out for us,” C-USA Associate Commissioner Alfred White joked.

Oklahoma State coach says LSU, Alabama deserve BCS spots right now
STILLWATER, Oklahoma – Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy got about as far away from campaigning to get his team into the national championship game as a college coach can get. Dressed to impress, Nick Saban says he’s not campaigning for a BCS berth
Currently, Alabama is No. 2 in the BCS standings behind No. 1 LSU. A distant No. 3, based on the BCS calculation, is Oklahoma State. The Crimson Tide completed its regular season with a 42-14 win Saturday over rival Auburn. If Oklahoma State defeats Oklahoma on Saturday, and Georgia defeats LSU, some have suggested it could truly create bedlam in the hunt for the top two BCS spots. Saban said Monday he had not thought about watching Saturday’s SEC championship game yet because this week’s agenda is filled with plenty of high school recruiting aimed at reloading his roster.

Would he risk losing a shot at the national championship just to get a shot at the SEC championship? “Why would I answer that question?” the Alabama coach said Monday. “I got enough problems to deal with today. I’ve got guys getting ready to go out for the draft. I’ve got guys that want to pick an agent. I’ve got a banquet coming up. We’ve got workouts coming up.

Nick Saban on BCS standings
TUSCALOOSA – A margin of 0.0839 might be miniscule under most circumstances, but as the Bowl Championship Series standings go, it is a wide gap. That’s the difference between the University of Alabama (.9551) and BCS No. 3 Oklahoma State (.8712) right now, and BCS experts have illustrated the Crimson Tide’s lead over the competition for a berth in the national championship game as virtually insurmountable. But while UA coach Nick Saban was clear Monday that he believes his team is deserving of a place on the game’s biggest stage, he’s making no assumptions about Alabama’s bowl destination just yet.
