Alabama running back Trent Richardson rushed for 203 yards and added a 5-yard touchdown catch. Here he broke off a powerful 57-yard run in the fourth quarter which led to Alabama’s final touchdown in this Iron Bowl victory. ROLL TIDE!
Alabama shut down Auburn in this edition of Iron Bowl rivalry. Auburn did manage to score 2 touchdowns from a fumble recovery and kick return. Other then that Auburn really brought nothing to the table this year. See you next year! ROLL TIDE!
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – For the second time in four years, the SEC won’t place a team in Birmingham’s bowl game. That means Conference USA could replace the SEC on Jan. 7 to play a lower-selected Big East team than usual in the BBVA Compass Bowl. Or not. Such is life this time of year and given Birmingham’s convoluted bowl arrangements. “Maybe you can figure this out for us,” C-USA Associate Commissioner Alfred White joked.
STILLWATER, Oklahoma – Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy got about as far away from campaigning to get his team into the national championship game as a college coach can get. Instead of arguing for the third-ranked Cowboys to get a shot at the BCS title, Gundy said Monday that he considers SEC powerhouses LSU and Alabama to be the best two teams in the nation right now.
Currently, Alabama is No. 2 in the BCS standings behind No. 1 LSU. A distant No. 3, based on the BCS calculation, is Oklahoma State. The Crimson Tide completed its regular season with a 42-14 win Saturday over rival Auburn. If Oklahoma State defeats Oklahoma on Saturday, and Georgia defeats LSU, some have suggested it could truly create bedlam in the hunt for the top two BCS spots. Saban said Monday he had not thought about watching Saturday’s SEC championship game yet because this week’s agenda is filled with plenty of high school recruiting aimed at reloading his roster.
Would Nick Saban trade places with LSU? Would he risk losing a shot at the national championship just to get a shot at the SEC championship? “Why would I answer that question?” the Alabama coach said Monday. “I got enough problems to deal with today. I’ve got guys getting ready to go out for the draft. I’ve got guys that want to pick an agent. I’ve got a banquet coming up. We’ve got workouts coming up.
TUSCALOOSA – A margin of 0.0839 might be miniscule under most circumstances, but as the Bowl Championship Series standings go, it is a wide gap. That’s the difference between the University of Alabama (.9551) and BCS No. 3 Oklahoma State (.8712) right now, and BCS experts have illustrated the Crimson Tide’s lead over the competition for a berth in the national championship game as virtually insurmountable. But while UA coach Nick Saban was clear Monday that he believes his team is deserving of a place on the game’s biggest stage, he’s making no assumptions about Alabama’s bowl destination just yet.
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – Sal Sunseri, Alabama’s assistant head coach who coaches the Crimson Tide’s outside linebackers, is one of five finalists for the Frank Broyles Award. The award goes annually to the nation’s top assistant coach. Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart won the award two years ago. Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn won it last year.
Last week, Alabama Coach Nick Saban didn’t want his players to watch the LSU-Arkansas football game, which could have had repercussions for the Crimson Tide insofar as the Southeastern Conference and national championship games. This week he’s still skittish about discussion of LSU.
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – Nine days ago, the star junior running back gave Alabama fans hope with comments he made after a 45-21 victory over Georgia Southern. He indicated that he would be back in 2012 for his senior season at Alabama. But there was reason to believe that what he said wasn’t what he meant to say.
Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson said there will be extra officers at Toomer’s Corner.
The Alabama Crimson Tide face off against the Auburn Tigers. This is a SEC Western Division away game for Alabama. This rivalry game is known as the Iron Bowl. It is considered to be one of the feircest rivalries in all of college football. Alabama leads the all-time series against the Bulldogs by a 40-34-1 margin. Their last meeting ended in a 27-28 loss for Alabama last year in Tuscaloosa.
A couple of Crimson Tide players were informed that Auburn players said they hated Alabama during interviews this week. So how do Alabama players feel about Auburn? “I strongly dislike Auburn,” Hightower said. “I don’t want to say I hate ‘em, but I’m definitely hyped up to play against these guys. Every year it’s always been a real good game. Those guys have been on a roll. … We’re just gonna have to come in and play our game.”
An Auburn player used the “h” word today to express his feelings toward the Crimson Tide. “I’m not even from Alabama, and being here for just one year, I hate Alabama,” Corey Lemonier said. So naturally Alabama players were asked tonight if they hate Auburn. “You know, hate’s a strong word,” Tide’s Dont’a Hightower says, “but I strongly dislike Auburn. I don’t want to say I hate them, but I’m definitely hyped up to play against these guys.”
