TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama football team spent Saturday practicing for two hours in light clothing (helmet, jersey, shorts) outdoors on the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields. The Crimson Tide will work three more times before breaking for the holiday season.
It was the fourth of seven bowl practices before the holiday break and 11 prior to the College Football Playoff Semifinal in Arlington, Texas. The Tide will square off with Big Ten Champions Michigan State inside AT&T Stadium on Thursday Dec 31, in the 2015 Goodyear Cotton Bowl. Kickoff for the New Year’s Eve bowl is scheduled for a 7:10 p.m. CT kickoff on ESPN with Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit in the booth, and Heather Cox on the sidelines.
The Spartans come into the bowl game with a 12-1 overall record and most recently defeated then-No. 4 Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game to advance to the College Football Playoff Semifinal. Michigan State began the season 8-0 before falling at Nebraska, 39-38. The Spartans bounced back with three wins to close out the regular season, highlighted by a last-second 17-14 win over Ohio State.
Alabama and Michigan State will meet for only the second time, with the first meeting coming in the 2011 Capital One Bowl. In that matchup, UA ran away with a 49-7 victory over the Spartans, collecting 546 yards of total offense.
