1992 would be the inaugural season of this Bowl Coalition and, at the end of it all, #1 Miami and #2 Alabama were the only two undefeated teams left standing. They met each other in the Sugar Bowl on January 1, 1993. The game was billed not to be much of a contest. The Hurricanes were defending national champions and heavy favorites over the Crimson Tide of Alabama. The top-ranked Alabama defense, however, would have other plans for the bookies as they would lead a performance for the ages that night. The Crimson Tide rolled over the stunned Miami Hurricanes, defeating them by the score of 34-13. The next day, Alabama was named national champions by both the Associated Press poll and the Coaches poll.
