Eddie Lacy has taken on the role of the No. 2 running back, and basically shares the position with Richardson in a rotating role. Nick Saban used the same setup when 2009 Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram was the No. 1 back, and Richardson was No. 2. Saban’s philosophy is simple – he wants to limit the amount of of damage his running backs absorb throughout a 12-14 game season.
