On the Alabama football practice field, it's hard sometimes to tell the difference between a serious position change and a mere experiment. For instance, freshman Eddie Williams was in a crimson jersey working Friday morning with the defensive backs. In the first seven days of preseason camp, Williams wore a white jersey and practiced with the wide receivers. Williams (No. 15) was the first player to commit to Alabama's 2012 signing class. He was highly regarded as an "athlete" at the time. The 6-foot-3, 204-pounder played wide receiver and safety at Arnold High School in Panama City, Fla. Williams enrolled in June at Alabama and was listed on the preseason roster at wide receiver.
