TULSA, Okla. – Sophomore Korey Lovett defeated Florida’s Alfredo Perez by a final score of 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the consolation singles draw on Friday afternoon at the 2015 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships. Lovett and senior Becker O’Shaughnessey later fell to Florida’s Diego Hidalgo and Gordon Watson, 6-3, 6-4, in the doubles main draw.
After falling behind 4-1 early in the first set, Lovett reeled off five consecutive games over Perez to take the opening set of the SEC foes consolation singles match, 6-4. Lovett built an early 3-2 lead in the second set, and after seeing the score knotted at 4-4, took back-to-back games to capture the set and seal the match by a final score of 6-4, 6-4. Lovett will square off with Vanderbilt’s Daniel Valent in tomorrow afternoon’s second round.
In doubles, Lovett and O’Shaughnessey kept things close in the early going, but ultimately dropped the opening set to Florida’s Hidalgo/Watson by a final score of 6-3. After Florida pulled away from an early 2-2 deadlock in the second set, Lovett/O’Shaughnessey rallied back to make it 5-4, but would eventually fall to the Gator duo, 6-3, 6-4.
