TULSA, Okla. – Sophomore Korey Lovett was defeated by Vanderbilt’s Daniel Valent by a final score of 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the second round of the consolation singles draw on Saturday morning at the 2015 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships.
After beating Florida’s Alfredo Perez by a final score of 6-4, 6-4 in Friday’s opening round match, Lovett was outlasted by Valent in a back-and-forth, three-set decision on Saturday. Lovett took the first set, 6-4, and showed signs of a comeback in the second set before Valent ultimately answered with a 6-4 win of his own. Valent took the first three games of the final set, and built a 4-1 lead before Lovett reeled off three straight games to deadlock the score at 4-4. With the score at 5-5, Valent won back-to-back games to take the set and the match, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Up next, the Alabama men’s tennis team will host the USTA/ITA Regional Championships, scheduled to run Oct. 15-19 in Tuscaloosa.
