The rich got richer in the college football world Sunday, when the Alabama Crimson Tide landed a commitment from 4-star tight end prospect Major Tennison.
Ryan Bartow of 247Sports reported the news and shared Tennison’s evaluation of the Alabama program: “They are the champs. They get great players and make them better. For me to be so highly regarded for them is hard to explain and a blessing. That’s a high honor. I feel like a lot of my hard work, blood, sweat and tears are paying off and coming to light.”
The 6’4 ½“, 248-pound playmaker is the No. 11-ranked tight end in the 2017 recruiting class and the No. 2-ranked tight end from Texas, per Scout.
Tennison informed Alabama head coach Nick Saban of his decision Sunday after taking an official visit over the weekend, per Bartow.
The Crimson Tide beat out a handful of top-notch programs, including SEC notables Georgia, LSU, Florida and Arkansas as well as Michigan, Nebraska, UCLA and Oklahoma State.
Hudl documented some of the highlights that likely caught the eyes of those programs:
Greg Powers of Scout provided a breakdown of Tennison’s game, pointing out the tight end’s hands and ability to serve as a red-zone weapon as two notable positives. Tennison is also versatile enough to play in the slot or as a pass-catching tight end, and “he runs really well for a prospect at his size,” according to Powers.
Senior tight end O.J. Howard has turned heads for the Crimson Tide in recent seasons. He has 278 receiving yards and two touchdown catches this season after finishing with 602 receiving yards last year. He was also the Offensive MVP in Alabama’s national title game win over Clemson.
If Tennison lives up to his potential, he could serve as the next playmaking tight end for the Crimson Tide after Howard graduates.
