TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – More than 30 Crimson Tide student-athletes are slated to receive their degrees Saturday during The University of Alabama’s summer commencement activities. The August graduates boost the Athletic Department’s 2014-15 total over 125.
Three-time NCAA champion Remona Burchell, one of the fastest women sprinters in NCAA track and field history, leads a group nine All-Americans who earned their degrees following the summer semester. Others include current Tennessee Titan lineman Chance Warmack, swimmer Kristel Vourna and track and field standouts Nia Barnes and Yanique Malcolm.
A quartet of gymnastics All-Americans – Lauren Beers, Kaitlyn Clark, Ashley Sledge and Kayla Williams – are slated for graduation with Williams and Sledge taking home graduate degrees.
Levi Randolph, the first member of the UA men’s basketball team to earn Academic All-America honors, also completed a graduate degree this summer.
Among the summer graduates, a half-dozen are earning their bachelor degrees in less than four years, including two, Beers – a two-time NCAA Elite 89 Award winner – and baseball player Mitch Greer, who both graduated in just three years. There are also two other Academic All-Americans in addition to Randolph with Beers and Barnes both earning the honor twice during their respective careers.
