The University of Alabama announced the hiring of Joe Pannunzio as director of football operations on Friday (February 11, 2011). Pannunzio brings nearly three decades of college football experience to the Capstone. He spent the last five years at the University of Miami (Fla.) and was the head coach at Murray State the previous six seasons. His primary role at UA will be to oversee the administration and operation of the football program.

The University of Alabama has several former football team members that have been invited to the annual NFL Scouting Combine, to be held February 23 through March 1, 2011 in Indianapolis, IN. The best draft eligible juniors and seniors of the Alabama football program will participate NFL style workouts in their attempt to launch their athletic career into the professional level. As usual Alabama will have numerous athletes taking part in this event, as well as having very many NFL Scouts and Coaches in attendance.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced Monday the hiring of Mike Groh, who will serve as wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator with the Crimson Tide. Groh, a former quarterback at the University of Virginia, joins Alabama's coaching staff after serving as the quarterbacks coach at Louisville last season. Groh spent eight years at Virginia (2001 through 2008) and spent three of those seasons coaching the wide receivers.

The 2011 Senior Bowl gives college football fans their last taste of collegiate competition before the next season and the last look at the departing seniors in action. There are three Alabama seniors on the South team for this years Senior Bowl. Those players are Quarterback Greg McElroy, Offensive Lineman James Carpenter, and Tight End Preston Dial. The Senior Bowl (Sponsored by Under Armor) will be played, as always, in Mobile, Alabama at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on January 29, 2011 at 3:00 pm.

The University of Alabama cheer squad won the 2011 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships, hosted by Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA), on Sunday. The UCA sanctioned national championship event from Jan. 14-17 was held at the Jostens Center at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on the Disney properties.

Considering the number of talented juniors that the Alabama Crimson Tide has on their team this year and the level of skills those players possess, it is fortunate for Alabama that relatively few of those juniors elected to forgo their senior season and try their hand at the professional level. The deadline for draft eligible juniors to declare their intentions to enter the NFL draft has come and gone this past Saturday. In a press conference on Friday January 7th, the only juniors leaving for the draft made their announcement to the media. Running back Mark Ingram, wide receiver Julio Jones, and defensive lineman Marcell Dareus, all Juniors, said their goodbyes to the Alabama Crimson Tide and hello to the NFL.
