Although its college football championship-winning streak was broken in the most recent season, the SEC certainly dominated the BCS National Championship years.
For their new “SECond Look” video report, AL.com’s Randy Kennedy and Mike Herndon talk about the chances for the SEC winning another national championship in the season after seeing an unparalleled streak broken as Auburn fell to Florida State last time.
The conference already has shown well in recent months, coming out on top nationally in softball and gymnastics for Florida and in golf for Alabama.
“What are the chances the SEC gets back on top in college football this year with a national champion?” asks Kennedy in our video.
Herndon answers that he expects Alabama and Auburn and possibly Georgia to be in contention for the national title.
“Now it has been eight years in a row that they (the SEC) had a team in the final, seven years that they had won it before losing it last year,” Herndon says. “For me the chances are as good for them winning another one as any other conference.”
Kennedy points out one thing challenging top SEC teams going forward — the relative inexperience of the quarterbacks.
Kennedy says, “I think one thing working against the SEC is at quarterback. … Among those big contenders Auburn is the only team with a guy returning who has been in the big game.”
