If there’s an award in which Barrett Jones is eligible to win, there’s a good chance he’ll be in the running to the very end. One day after he was named as one of three finalists for the Outland Trophy, the Alabama center was listed in the final four for the Lombardi Trophy, which goes annually to the nation’s top linebacker or interior lineman.

Kirby Smart Named AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year

Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart was named the American Football Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year, the organization announced Tuesday. The honor comes on the heels of winning the Broyles Award in 2009. Under Smart’s direction, the Alabama defense is one of the best in the nation. Alabama is ranked No. 3 in rushing defense (76.20 ypg allowed), No. 9 in pass efficiency defense (102.76 rating), No. 2 in total defense (247.80 ypg allowed) and No. 1 in scoring defense (11.10 ppg allowed) in 2012.

Alabama center Barrett Jones was selected as finalist for the 43rd Rotary Lombardi Award, which goes to the nation’s top linebacker or interior lineman, the Rotary Club of Houston announced on Tuesday. Jones, from Germantown, Tenn., is joined by South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney, Georgia’s Jarvis Jones and Notre Dame’s Manti Te’o as finalists.

Add yet another honor to Alabama center Barrett Jones’ ever-growing list of achievements. The senior center is one of 30 finalists for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award. The honor goes annually to the Division I FBS player who has “notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition,” according to a release.

Alabama senior center Barrett Jones is one of 11 major college football players who has been named to the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. The Good Works Team recognizes players’ community service. Jones’ resume of community service includes two mission trips to Haiti and one to Nicaragua, aiding in the Tuscaloosa tornado cleanup efforts and regularly visiting sick children in the hospital.
