Spurrier: Alabama can beat some NFL teams
Steve Spurrier may not have been a good fit in the NFL. However, the ol’ ball coach says Nick Saban and powerhouse Alabama have what it takes to compete at the highest level. “Alabama, gosh, they look like they could beat a couple of those NFL teams that I’ve watched on Sundays,” Spurrier said Wednesday on “The Dan Patrick Show.” “I think a lot of the oddsmakers out there that usually know what’s going on, I’d guess Alabama would be favored by a little bit.”
Update on Marcus Lattimore’s condition
The latest reports indicate that Marcus Lattimore’s knee was dislocated with some ligament damage, but no fractures. Medical experts speculate that this is a good sign that his days on the football field may not be over yet.
Lattimore hyperextended knee, hurt ligaments

Coach Steve Spurrier said the injury is something Lattimore can come back from to play football again. There were no fractures or additional injuries, according to team physician Jeffrey Guy.
Marcus Lattimore suffers severe injury
It’s so sad to see that such a severe injury was inflicted upon to Marcus Lattimore today. He has so much potential but that knee injury looked bad enough that it may jeopardize his future sports career. We recruited him too. And even though he chose not to play for Alabama, I hope for his sake that he will be able to play again at full strength, even if he is not even on our team.

SEC: No switch to nine conference football games – at least not yet
South Carolina President Harris Pastides told his school’s student newspaper the SEC will play nine conference games by adding Missouri. The SEC office says that’s not the case – at least not yet. “No, not at this point,” SEC Executive Associate Commissioner Mark Womack said Monday. “I think (Pastides) believes it’s something we’re certainly going to look at or thought it might be an idea. But it’s a topic that really hasn’t had a lot of discussion at this point.” Would the SEC ever go to nine games?

No one handles rematches like Nick Saban
Alabama fans can hang their hat on this for Saturday’s rematch: Rare is the coach who gets Saban two times in a row. Ten years have passed since Saban lost in consecutive years to the same coach in college. Ever since Steve Spurrier pounded Saban’s LSU teams 41-9 in 2000 and 44-15 in 2001, Saban has won 12 straight rematch games. Now three rematches potentially stand between Saban and a shot for his second national title in three years. The three teams who beat Alabama in 2010 all could pop up on the Crimson Tide’s schedule in the next month.
