If you were to make a list of the top handful of receivers from The Opening this past week, Christian Kirk would definitely be near the top. His whole skill set of explosive speed, run after the catch ability and sure handedness was all on display.
Kirk measured in at 5-10, 191 pounds and did very well in SPARQ testing running a 4.47-40, 4.25 shuttle, jumped 39″ in the vertical and threw the power ball 41′. He has a powerful body that will allow him to be used in a variety of ways. He can play in the backfield, the slot and will be a very dangerous return man.
“I had a great time this year,” Kirk said. “This was better than last year for me because I know so many more kids out here since they’re almost all from my class. I was more comfortable this year too and had a great time. I was talking to some past alumni from the event like Kyle Allen and they were all saying how much better we had it, NIKE really stepped up their game.”
On the recruiting front, Kirk is still at 10 schools and will make his next cut later in the summer.
“I’ll cut it to five in August,” Kirk said. “That’s when I’ll start setting trip dates too. Right now, the two schools that will make the list will for sure be Texas A&M and USC. You can throw Ohio State in the mix as well.
“I still need to figure out the last two but those three will definitely get official visits. I want to try and take all five trips if I can but if I can’t and I feel I’m ready earlier, I’ll go ahead and just take those three.”
Saguaro (Ariz.) wide out Christian Kirk is one of two players who attended The Opening last year. He’s currently sitting at 10 schools and will cut the list to five at the end of the summer.
