Having swept the SEC Western Division, and completing an undefeated regular season in the process, the Alabama Crimson Tide earned a trip to the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia for the SEC Championship for the second year in a row. They again faced off against the Florida Gators, who were led by the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Tim Tebow. This match up figured to be similar to that of the prior year where Alabama and Florida fought it out until the end, with Florida getting the edge in end of that contest. However the Crimson Tide had other plans. The game was competitive initially, but as time went on, Alabama began to impose it’s will on the mighty Gators thanks to outstanding play by Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy and running back Mark Ingram. With that the Alabama Crimson Tide won the 2009 SEC Championship and earned a spot in the National Championship.
