LEXINGTON, Ky. –
The No. 6 ranked Alabama gymnastics team is taking on No. 24 Kentucky in Lexington Friday, starting at 7 p.m. ET, a week after taking down then No. 1 Florida.
Friday’s meet marks Alabama’s fourth meet of the season, its third-consecutive meet against Southeastern competition and second road meet of the year. The meet will be streamed live on the SEC Network + and will be broadcast on a taped delay basis on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
Alabama and Kentucky last met during the regular season in Knoxville, Tenn., at the Ozone Classic where the Tide beat the Wildcats 196.050-194.650. While the Tide is coming off a 197.4-196.8 home win over the Gators, Kentucky is coming off a 196.975-194.225 loss at Georgia.
After posting the highest team total in SEC last Friday against Florida, Alabama is looking to maintain its momentum and post a good road score against the Wildcats.
“We’re looking to carry forward the good things that came out of our last meet and try and put together a great road performance,” UA head coach Dana Duckworth said. “As is usually the case on the road, we’re going to have to create our own energy and stay within our `Bama bubble’ in Lexington.”
Junior Lauren Beers went in the all-around for the first time in her Crimson Tide career against the Gators, scoring a 39.5, while sophomore Katie Bailey went all-around for the second time in three meets against Florida, posting a 39.450, the best regular-season tally of her career.
The Tide also got a standout performance from senior Kaitlyn Clark, who earned SEC Specialist of the Week honors after winning the vault with a career-best 9.975 and leading the Tide on the floor with a season-best 9.9.
Alabama will continue to tinker with its lineup against the Wildcats, with the balance beam being the only lineup likely to stay the same from last week. The Tide rebounded from a three-fall beam performance in its second meet of the season to score an SEC-best 49.325 in its third meet.
Following its meet with the Wildcats, the Tide returns home Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. CT to take on the Auburn Tigers. Tickets to all Alabama’s home meets are on sale through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262), located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum, and online at RollTide.com.
