TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Intercollegiate Tennis Association today announced updated team, singles and doubles rankings for the 2015 regular season. After defeating the Auburn Tigers in the second round of the SEC Tournament, and later falling to eventual tournament champions Vanderbilt in the semifinals, the Tide lands at No. 14 in this week’s team rankings. Alabama’s Erin Routliffe and Maya Jansen remain atop the national doubles rankings for the second straight week after becoming the first duo to end the regular season at No. 1 in back-to-back years.
The North Carolina women remain ranked No. 1 for the second straight week, clinching their fourth regular season ACC title in the last six years on Wednesday. The No. 2 USC women also clinched a perfect regular season conference record with a comeback victory over crosstown rival UCLA on Thursday. The No. 6 Bruins led the match 3-0 before USC rattled off the final four points for a 4-3 win, completing the Trojans’ second perfect Pac-12 season in the last three years. No. 3 California defeated rival Stanford in their regular season finale and moved up one spot this week.
No. 4 Vanderbilt, which had been hovering around No. 10 all season and ranked No. 9 last week, won the SEC tournament outright by No. 6 Georgia and No. 5 Florida on consecutive days. The wins gave the Commodores their first SEC tournament title in program history.
For the second consecutive week, Alabama’s Erin Routliffe and Maya Jansen find themselves atop the national doubles rankings. Routliffe and Jansen carried a perfect 15-0 record into week nine of the conference season, and currently own a commanding 18-1 (9-1 SEC) record for the dual match season. Reigning NCAA doubles champions, the duo become the first doubles team in the history of the program to reach No. 1 in the rankings in 2014.
Anchored by a dominant court one pairing, the Crimson Tide won 19 of 23 possible doubles points this season. For the fourth consecutive week, the Tide’s court three pairing of Danielle Spielmann and Luicelena Perez (No. 62) are also ranked nationally by ITA.
Alabama continues to have the top half of its singles lineup ranked nationally by the ITA, including Routliffe (38) and Jansen (58) who have combined for 26 individual victories. Sophomore Danielle Spielmann rounds out the Crimson Tide singles players in the national rankings at No. 72.
The 2015 ITA Division I National Rankings continue next Tuesday April 28, with a new set National Team, Singles and Doubles Rankings.
