SKILLMAN, N.J. — The Alabama women’s tennis team (2-3) checked in at No. 18 in the latest Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Women’s Team Rankings, released Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The Crimson Tide entered the ITA National Women’s Team Indoor Championship ranked No. 13, but suffered three tough losses against top-20 opponents to slip five spots in the national poll. Alabama is one of eight teams from the Southeastern Conference to be ranked inside the top 25 this week, the most of any conference.
Updated singles and doubles rankings were also published on Wednesday. Freshman Andie Daniell remained the highest-ranked member of the Tide, coming in at 47th this week. Daniell had a solid weekend at the ITA National Women’s Team Indoor Championship, posting a 2-0 record in singles that included a 6-4, 6-3 win over Vladica Babic of Oklahoma State. Babic is ranked 33rd in the nation this week. Junior Joanna Nena Savva earned a national ranking for the first time in her career, moving up to 122nd.
In doubles, Alabama’s top tandem of Daniell and junior Erin Routliffe remained in the rankings. With a record of 11-3 overall on the season, including 2-2 at the top position in dual matches, the duo is ranked 52nd in the nation.
The Tide returns to action on Monday, Feb. 15, traveling to Charlottesville, Va., to take on No. 9 Virginia at 3 p.m. CT.
